In May, 2014 a beautiful, talented 15 year old girl passed tragically and unexpectedly away. Just a few hours earlier the girl had been singing, laughing and catching grapes in her mouth with her family. A picture perfect scene – no one could have predicted the events that would unfold that evening, for behind the smiles and the songs, the girl had been haunted by a terrible and deadly secret. Unbeknownst to those closest to her, in the few short weeks before her death the girl had been fighting a silent and lonely battle, it was a battle that ultimately she would lose.

In September 2014 the ‘Mirror of Hope Foundation’ was established in Elle Holmes honor.  The Mirror of Hope Foundation is a not-for-profit charitable company with a mission to highlight and reduce the suffering caused by self-harming and body dysmorphic disorders, especially to teenage girls. In particular we are focused on highlighting awareness of the inherent dangers behind the ‘pro-ana’ and ‘thinspiration’ communities, and of the phenomenon of self-harming.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_self”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_self”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image border_color=”grey” img_link_target=”_self”][vc_column_text]The Organisation aims;

To highlight the risks of untreated and or unrecognised child and adolescent mental heath issues

To support the work of Papyrus ( link) and MAED ( link)

To educate parents, teachers and carers about the dangers of  eating disorders body dysmorphism and thinspiration.

This project aims to both realize Elle’s dreams of attaining recognition for her music and delivering her important message.

Over the last two years various professionals have worked to bring life a composition that stayed true to Elle’s original yet was of a quality to reach a commercial audience with the intention of using the song and its accompanying video to raise awareness and for any profits to be used to support the organisations aims in reaching young people around the world with similar issues[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Why the butterfly logo?

Elle was passionate about her school work and often used her English assignments to express her inner thoughts .  A few weeks before she died she wrote this
” A butterfly is a confusing kind of insect ; yet amazing too. No two butterflies are alike, not really They may seem identical but if you look closely you’ll realize how different they are. Each unique , like snowflakes. Some may perceive them as beautiful; a whirlwind of exotic colors painted along delicate wings. Others may see them as pests , along with all the insects in the world. Controversial creatures really. A butterfly can’t see it’s own wings; its beauty is masked, hidden from its own eyes. But the rest of the world sees. We all witness the beauty of its wings. The elegance of its movement in the air. The butterfly is oblivious to this and continues on not believing itself to be anymore than ordinary. But we all know that no butterfly is simply ordinary. I’d like to believe one day, the butterfly will see it’s true beauty. However unless evolution takes a dramatic turn, they will continue to live a life of ignorance. Until that dramatic moment I guess the butterfly will live in its world of oblivion and eternally be kept hidden from their beauty and grace “
This is what we believe about young people  who are struggling ; they are butterflies who are oblivious to their beauty and the talents they possess.  We see our role at MOH as helping them recognise what they bring to the world and supporting them through the difficult times until they are ready to fly alone.
